We are members of a variety of social groups. These can be on a smaller scale, like family groups, or a much larger scale, such as a citizen of a country, for example. Groups, without a doubt, will experience conflict at some point, and often the conflict resolution process and sustainability of the group depends on our ability to accurately identify what caused the conflict in the first place. This assignment will allow you to reflect on your own role as a group member when the group experiences the conflict-resolution process, in order to become more familiar with characteristics of any social group, and perhaps either prevent conflict in the future, or engage in resolution more effectively when conflict arises.
- Write a 1-page double spaced response reflecting on a time you were a member of a group that experienced conflict. What was the cause of the incompatibility of group members? Was it perceived injustice, competition, or misperceptions (or a combination of these factors or others) that led to the conflict? What strategies did the group use to resolve the conflict, and did you find these strategies to be effective?
