I was under the impression that hypertrophy is an increase in cell size while hyperplasia is an increase in the # of cells. Today in class I saw in the notes that my teacher said that 

hypertrophy is correlated w/ an increase in sarcomeres.

Wouldn't an increase in sarcomeres correlate to more cells contradicting the definition of hypertrophy?
