Many agencies in the criminal justice system know the impact diversity issues have on their ability to serve and understand their communities.  From law enforcement to the courts to corrections, diversity issues impact the system throughout.  Understanding these issues will help to move forward and address these issues.  Tensions arise quickly when there is a conflict between law enforcement and other members of the community. 
Based on these concerns there are many programs being developed to help educate members of the criminal justice community to understand the issues of diversity in their communities and help them to address those issues and better serve their communities.  Evaluating various programs to see how they can impact the various roles of the criminal justice program will be significant and helpful for the future of the system.

  • How do issues of diversity impact the criminal justice system? 
  • Research programs being developed and implemented that educate members of the criminal justice community on the importance of understanding diversity to properly serve their communities. 
  • Do these programs work?  Explain why or why not.
  • Has there been any demonstratable change in attitudes toward workplace diversity in law enforcement?  Explain your findings.
