Charlotte fry NAEYC Personal Values Response

Hello everyone , my name is Charlotte Fry. I’m 19 years old and currently living with my mom and working part time in retail. I have experience watching my younger siblings and cousins. The reason why I’m pursuing a career in early childhood education is because I would enjoy caring for children and would love to branch out into speech therapy or perhaps being a sociologist . My long term goals would be to obtain a AA in child development and transfer to a university to further my goal in psych or sociologist.

Part 2:

  1. Teachers most important task is to help children feel good about themselves.

  1. It’s important for teachers to be responsive to the individual needs and interests of all children.

  1. Children should be allowed to play in school.

I chose these important values because of my experience as a student and with the experience of caring for my younger siblings. Teachers need to have discipline of course , however, that isn’t the most important value. Educators need to understand the worth and dignity of each student and enable them. Recognizing each students individual needs helps each student reach their full potential. Play is also a important value as it’s been proven children learn from play . Children develop many skills from playing and even develop language skills. Besides that recess is always the most enjoyable aspect of school for many children .

Maritza Trejo's Values Response

The first experience I have working with young children began with my nieces and nephews by having to babysit them. Next, was when I worked for the Palmdale school district for nearly a year as a Special Educational Instructional Assistant, where I worked with children ranging in ages 4 to 12. Finally, my mother and I fostered my nieces and nephew, which is where I  began to realize what type of degree I would like to pursue.

The reason I am interesting in pursuing this type of degree is to help children grow a healthy and happy life. I am currently working for an organization that offers many services to the community and I see myself working here for many years to come. I plan on obtaining my bachelors degree and possibly opening a day care with one of my family members who is also passionate about children's health and happiness. I would then attempt to obtaining a Master's degree if the opportunity arises, but I like to complete one major goal before planning for the next major goal.

Part Two

  1. A teacher’s most important task is to help children feel good about themselves.
  2. It is important for teachers to be responsive to the individual needs and interests of all children.
  3. In order to show fairness, all children should be treated the same way in school
  4. Development of intellectual skills is the most important task of an early childhood program.
  5. Early childhood curriculum should be based on what children will need to know in later schooling.
  6. Given enough time and equipment, children will learn all they need without traditional, formal teaching.
  7. Children should be allowed to play in school.
  8. It is appropriate for educators to use rewards help change children’s behaviors.
  9. Children who attend preschool and kindergarten should learn the discipline they will need later in school.
  10. Children won’t learn unless the teacher tells them what to do.
  11. It is important for children in pre-school to learn to color within and cut on the lines, write neatly, stand in line, and use proper punctuation.
  12. Family should not be allowed to interfere in their child’s schooling.
  13. Children who misbehave should not be allowed special privileges.

I believe that when children feel good about themselves they are more confident and willing to express themselves, they may have a better attitude towards others as well. I also think it is important for teachers to recognize that not all children are the same, and that each student has strengths that they should help identify and encourage the progress and growth of those strengths. As with strengths, children also have different weaknesses that the teacher should focus on and help strengthen. Even though each child is different, it is important to treat them all the same and with respect.
