History and Indigenous Religion Discussion

Question

One common mistake people make in analyzing indigenous religious traditions is to think of them as somehow outside of "history" -- as timeless religions that are unchanging. In what way do we see Navajo religion developing and changing over time? What dynamics, both internal to the tradition and from external forces (like the expansion of the United States into indigenous lands), shape the religion over time? How is Navajo religion changing today?
