he goal of this activity is to discern attitudes and actions that put people first by exhibiting self-sacrifice and genuine concern. It may seem counterintuitive but the way to get more out of your organization is not to focus on the tasks, rather focus on the people. Employees who know they are valued by their leaders work harder, happier and longer.

  • Read Chapter 2 in the Seven Pillars textbook.
  • Download and review the Week Three Pillars Presentation
  • Write a one-page journal responding to one or more of the questions presented in the Power Point presentation on slides 3-6. Some of them are provided below.
    • What is the role of a mentor? Have you ever been mentored? By whom? What did he/she teach you?
    • Can we draw any conclusions about mentoring by examining Jesus’ relationship with his disciples? Can you see any of the factors Don Frick mentions on pp. 40 & 41?
    • What do the following scriptures teach about putting people first?
    • Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.” Matthew 16:24
    • “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.” spoken by Jesus in Luke 10:27.
