Summarize risk and protective factors which contribute to vulnerability and/or resilience in the area of prevention of drug and alcohol disorders.

The goal of this activity is to understand how identifying risk and protective factors can help prevent future mental health and/or drug and alcohol disorders. In looking at factors which could either help or hurt individuals, we will examine and critique current key features.

• Prepare an 8-10 slide deck that outlines risk and protective factors.
• To achieve maximum points for content and analysis, the following elements need to be thoroughly addressed:
  • Define risk factors according to the SAMHSA article.
  • Define protective factors according to the SAMHSA article.
  • After clicking on Applying the Strategic Prevention Framework (SPF) link in the article, present the 5 steps.
  • Explain what cultural competence and sustainability is and why these are important elements in prevention.
