SIGNIFICANCE OF ONLINE GAMING ON CHILDREN
The significance of online games within our everyday lives has certainly been increased and shaped by new technologies and gaming patterns, including the rise of home based games, advances in mobile telephone technology, the rise in more 'sociable' forms of gaming, and of course the advent of the internet.
Online gaming is the widely used leisure activities by many people. These all are the advantages of online gaming. It can act as a stress reliever in today's competitive world, but relying too much on this will definitely ruin our lives. In today's world, the competition level is increasing in each and every field. So as the competition increases, the mental stress also increases. It can cause mental imbalance of human beings. In order to get relieved from frustration and academic pressure, children blindly rely upon online games. During the first time, it will be leisure or relief but later on it causes addiction. When children get addicted to it, it causes various physiological as well as mental problems. The major mental problems caused by online games are anxiety and depression. As said in the above points, it may help to ease short term stress and frustration. But addiction definitely causes anxiety and depression. Children cope with their academic pressure by playing online games, but the excessive use of online games for a long time may separate individuals from real life relationships, thus causing severe mental health problems, such as, depression and anxiety.
Even in the midst of all networking sites, majority of the children are adversely affected by loneliness. This causes depression and finally to the extreme step, that is, suicide. We are losing the sharpest brains in the world due to game addiction. It causes not only depression and anxiety, but also some other problems too. Some of the cognitive level problems are:1. Poor concentration and thereby low academic performance9. Aggressive behavior10. IrritabilityThese all are the cognitive problems of children caused by online gaming. The primary pleasure later on turns to addiction, ruin children's lives. There are so many examples in our own surroundings. But we have to open our eyes to see that. One such example is the real life incident of a 15 year old Chinese boy.A teenager in China had been unable to move his left arm and hand after binge playing computer games for a month. The 15 year old boy indulged in video games for about 22 hours a day while staying at home during the corona virus lockdown. The teenager rushed to the hospital after he collapsed in home. He was diagnosed with a cerebral stroke after undergoing a CT scan. He also lost his sensation in his left arm and hand. Video game addiction has become a prominent societal issue among the young people in China, with an increasing number of young people choosing to ignore their studies, social lives and family to play online games. Many people use the so called 'digital detox' rehab camps as a last resort to curbing their children's fixation on the digital world. Internet addiction is considered a clinical disorder in the nation. This is one of the example of major physiological problems caused by game addiction. There are several others too.So in order to save our children from game addiction and associated problems, we have to take some remedial measures. Some of the remedial steps are:1. Set time limits to play and stick to them2. Keep phones and other gadgets out of the bedroom so you won't pay during nights.3. Do exercises every day. This will lower the health risks of sitting and playing for long stretches of time.4. Do some hobbies like dancing, singing, painting, playing instruments etc. 5. Engage in social activities like charitable works, volunteer activities, free tutoring etc.6. Engage in activities like gardening, cooking, farming, tripping etc.7. Make a healthy relationship between family, friends and colleagues and socialize with each other.8. Help others Helping others relieve us from mental pain and stress. As Mahatma Gandhi said; ' The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others'

Answer

Online gaming holds a significant impact on children, especially those who spend most of their free time occupied by it. Although many may believe online gaming has numerous positive effects on children such as teaching them how to think strategically by overcoming obstacles to get to the next level and maybe even understanding how to accept loss, there is overwhelming evidence that proves excessive gaming can propose a negative impact on a child’s life. Rather than being stimulated by a real, tangible world, many children today get lost in screens. Dedicating hours on end to beating a board, often at the expense of more important things like exercise and adequate sleep. The Center on Media and Child Health states “56% of teens ages 13 to 17 play video games for an average of 2.5 hours per day.” Since school and homework take up much of a child’s day, a few hours of free time is really all that is left, and studies show more than half of children choose to spend their free time gaming. When physical activity is replaced by excessive sitting, this can have detrimental effects to a child’s health. Movement during the adolescent years is crucial because it creates cardiovascular health, lowers risk for disease, improves cognitive functions and mood, and overall increases quality of life. But unfortunately, the amount of children that prioritize exercise over gaming is quickly decreasing. It is much easier and a less energy demanding activity for children to sit idly in front of a screen than to challenge their bodies potential and work hard. This idea also translates to how gaming might influence how someone handles hurdles and hardships in real life. Because physical activity allows you to deeply understand the idea of building strength within your body, it allows you to connect this theory to your mind when you are experiencing obstacles related to stress and life. On the other hand, gamers spend a lot of time staying in the same place. This can translate to them feeling less resilient to overcome barriers and build strength, because they are so accustomed to not moving in the real world. Spending an abundant amount of time gaming can disconnect you from your physical body and make you truly identify as your character in the game. This is all particularly bad for children because during the childhood years is when their development is most malleable and effected by what they do and see. The content children are often exposed to in video games also leads to another negative affect gaming inflicts on children. Most modern video games consist of violent, abusive, and degrading content. Violent images can often linger in a child’s mind which creates the pathways for abnormal development and possible behavior problems that reflect what they are playing. Children are known to use what they are surrounded by as role models and follow in their footsteps, so now that many minors are finding role models through video games, they are manifesting their identity to match with those on the screen. This is dangerous for many reasons, a prime example being most kids see and learn about a gun for the first time through video games. Who knows what the future could look like if kids weren’t exposed to explicit content through gaming. Lastly, gaming is most dangerous because it can be recognized as an addiction, comparable to other drugs like heroin. When gaming becomes vital to your everyday routine, interferes with other daily activities, and becomes something you feel you can not live without, this is considered a gaming addiction or “gaming disorder.” Today, it is easy to witness how children behave when it comes to their games and devices. They often portray actions such as crying, throwing tantrums, and yelling when it is taken away. For some kids, their device is their only form of reward when they accomplish a goal. When Gaming begins to over use a child’s rewards system, it highjacks the happy hormone from all other sources, making gaming the only route to pleasure for a child. This eliminates the chance to experience happiness from other sources like social gatherings and travel, because they have all the happiness they need right in their bedroom. Like any other addiction, gaming addiction is dangerous because it allows a person to create a dependency on something else, and when they no longer have access to it they can experience severe mental uncomfortableness and emotional withdrawals. To cultivate happiness it is important for children to understand that it comes from within, not from their device. But the more children are allowed to turn to their games for a sense and happiness and security, the more disconnected they will feel from themselves and true happiness. Overall, gaming has shown its negative impacts both physically and mentally for children. Although gaming can have benefits if played in moderation, that time can be used more wisely to better influence the development of children.
