plan

Question

Spiritual growth does not happen all at once, nor does it happen by accident.  Spiritual formation is a lifelong journey and one in which we are actively involved in becoming more like Christ.  However, in order to do this effectively, we must be intentional and one thing that may help this process is a plan of spiritual growth.  It is important to recognize that this is not about maintaining our salvation or doing enough to please God so that he will overlook all of our flaws.  He already did that when he sent his Son to die for us while we were still sinners.  Rather, this is our proper response to rightly ordered love like we talked about last week.  We want to respond to God’s love in such a way as to make us more equipped to do the work that God has called us to and to more effectively love those he puts in our path.

  • Create a plan for spiritual growth and development for this week
    • Your plan will cover not only this course, but the time frame of the next class that you will be taking.
    • Your plan could look like a chart or a calendar, or any other accessible format.

  • Explain what you plan to do each week and each day by doing the following:
    • Provide the name of the discipline for the week
    • List your memory verse for the week
    • Focus statement on what you hope to learn from practicing this discipline.
    • List each day of the week, and provide specific ideas on how you will implement this practice each day.
    • Total of 10 weeks
  • Hang that verse up in a place where you can easily see it every morning and every evening.  When you sit down to eat or when you leave your house.  In this way, you may reflect on scripture in the same way the Israelites did (Duet. 6:4-8).
