pulling it together

Question

this is where we pull the thesis, the research question, the reference page and all other assignments on the abortion into a paper. The peer review we will do over the weekend not due til monday so for now concentrate on the paper!!

Peer reviewing can be intimidating. Some students feel vulnerable submitting their work for others to see. There are two very important reasons why we peer review at Grace. The first is that we are part of a supportive community. As fellow Christians, we want to come alongside and encourage each other. We are not looking to find fault with each other, but rather to find ways to help build on what is being done well and to give suggestions for improvement.

The other reason peer reviewing is important is because it allows students to give and receive feedback. Seeing other examples of the assignment can help you see things you hadn’t thought of. It also allows you to watch for things that were required for the assignment. It is often said that having to teach someone is the best way to learn.

As you give feedback, be sure to focus on the positive. What did your peers do well that they can build on? Also, be specific. Saying, “Your paper is good” doesn’t help them know what was good and what they should keep doing. Instead, it is more helpful to say, “You used topic sentences well to organize your paper.”

The same is true for areas of improvement. You do your peers a disservice if you do not give them anything to work on. It doesn’t help to say, “Your paper wasn’t clear.” How would they fix that? Instead, it would be more helpful to say, “In your second point, it would help if you have a source to support the point you were making.”

  • Prepare your Paper:
  • Review and Comment on other Student Essays:
    • Use the Peer Review Form to give specific feedback to at least two classmates.  Submit the form by Monday.
    • Turn on Track Changes. You will make changes directly in the paper and can add comments directly in the paper.
    • If you have not done this before, go to Creating Opportunities for a Better Life
    • Save the document with the changes and comments and post the document back into the discussion forum.
