 Explain the changing demographic of refugees entering the U.S. and how attitudes toward and programs for refugees need to change dramatically for some refugees to receive help.

There have been immigrants and refugees entering the U.S. for years but the current issue of refugees seems to be constantly in the news and more controversial than ever. We will explore who the refugees are today as opposed to twenty or even a hundred years ago and what can be done to help them receive the help they need.

  • Read Refugees & Resettlement.
  • Read pp. 35-38 in your textbook.
  • Write a 2-3 page paper that defines the term “refugee” and explains how the demographics and needs of refugees have changed over the years.
  • To achieve maximum points for content and analysis, the following elements need to be thoroughly addressed:
    • Who were the immigrants in the early 1900s and what has happened to people from those countries?
    • Who are the immigrants and refugees today?
      • What is the difference between an immigrant and refugee?
    • Why is there currently so much controversy regarding refugees from certain countries entering the U.S.?
    • What attitudes should we as Christians have toward refugees and what does the Bible say about how we should treat them?
