Answer

1.Introductory part: Blue Whales

Even though the blue whale is called blue its color is usually grey or in some cases grayish-blue. The blue whale is a marine mammal which reaches a maximum weight of about 200 tons and a maximum length of 30 meters. It is known to be the heaviest animal that has existed in the world. Moreover, their tongues can weigh more than an elephant and their hearts can be as large as a car. Their food is krill, they have baleen attached to their upper jaws, and their underbellies have a yellowish color. Even though their average swimming speed is about five miles an hour, they can accelerate up to 20 miles when they are perturbed.
Types:

The types of blue whale recognized are m. brevicauda, B. m. intermedia, m. unnamed subsp., m. indica, and m. musculus. Most of the classification of blue whales is based on their locations. Others are based on their size. For example, m. brevicauda is called the pygmy blue whale. The generic name of the Blue Whale is Balaenoptera Musculus.
How they live and places:

They live on krill, the blue whales conduct dives and do a series of turns and rolls to locate krill and change its body position to gulp in large concentrations of krill. A large blue whale may eat more than seven tons of krill per day.
The Blue Whales are loud and their moans, pulses, and groans can be heard by other Blue Whales almost 1,000 miles away (1). The sounds emitted by Blue Whales not only help them connect with other Blue Whales but also help them navigate the depths of dark oceans. Their sound-making ability is matched with the excellent hearing ability and these help it survive in the depths of oceans where light never reaches.
In the Southern Hemisphere, the groups of whale are very large, in the Northern Hemisphere they are seen in small groups and are seen in Mexico, Monterey, and the Gulf of St. Lawrence (2). During summer they feed in polar waters and during winter they move towards the equator to breed. The number of Blue Whales substantially declined when modern commercial whaling decimated their population during the 1900s. In the North Pacific, Blue Whales are found in the Gulf of Alaska, in the North Atlantic, Blue Whales are spotted in the Davis Strait and Nova Scotia, the smaller subspecies are found in Indonesia, Madagascar, and Australia. These are m. brevicauda. Blue Whales are not found in the Arctic.
2. My opinion about them

My own opinion about Blue Whales is that of astonishment, wonder, and surprise. They are great mammals and do proud of all living things on earth. They are the largest on earth, have remarkable voices, and are incredible creatures. The Blue Whales remind me of the great creative powers of God who has created them, gifted them with tremendous energy, and made them thrive in the blue oceans. At the same time, the Blue Whales remind me of the selfishness of human beings who have killed a large number of them for commercial purposes. I like them because they represent the acme of mammal growth. The other reason I like them is that they do not normally kill or eat human beings. The Blue Whales have a huge esophagus and are known to swallow squid, but there is no report of a Blue Whale eating a human being.

Answer

Part - 1IntroductionThe blue whale is a type of mammal called a cetacean and it is a type of baleen whale. The scientific name for the blue whale is the Balaenoptera muscolus. It is the largest animal known ever to have lived on planet earth. Even the biggest dinosaur to have ever lived doesn't come close to the size of a blue whale. These majestic marine animals can grow to be as long as 100 feet and weigh upwards of 200 tons. Their tongues alone can have the weight comparable to that of an elephant. Their hearts can weigh as much as an automobile. The average lifespan of a blue whale is around 80-90 years.Types of Blue Whales Currently, the Society for Marine Mammalogy recognizes five subspecies of Blue Whales :B. m. Intermedia - They are mainly found in North Atlantic and North Pacific ocean.B. m. Brevicauda - They are found mainly in the Southern ocean.B. m. Musculus - Also called the Pygmy blue whale, this type is mainly found in Indian ocean and South Pacific ocean.B. m. Indica - These are mainly found in the north Indian oceanB. m. Unnamed - They have been found in waters of Chile and are yet to be named.HabitatBlue whales can be found in all oceans of the world. They go to high latitudes in search for food and to the tropics to breed and to give birth. Blue whales are carnivore in nature. They reach these enormous dimensions on a diet composed almost entirely of tiny shrimp-like animals called krill. A single adult blue whale is known to consume about 4 tons of a krill a day during some times of the year. Blue whales are baleen whales, which means they have baleens i.e. plates with fringes of a material called ballen attached to their jaws. The giant animals take in an enormous mouthful of water, which expands the pleated skin on their throat. Then the whale's tongue pushes the water out through the overlapping baleen plates. In the process, thousands of krill get left behind and are swallowed.Blue whales are not very specific in the pattern of their movements. There is substantial evidence of alternative strategies like differential or partial migration, staying at a place year-round and sometimes showing anomalies like feeding on their breeding grounds. For Antarctic blue whales, for example, some stay entire year in the Antarctic, some stay year-round in northerly grounds, and most go to the Southern Hemisphere in the winter months.Part - 2Blue whales in my view are magnificent and extremely interesting creatures to have ever existed. They are also one of the highest curious, intelligent mammals and are very graceful swimmers. Knowing certain facts about the blue whale gave me a sense of awe I had never before experienced. However, it saddens me to know that these beautiful creatures currently come under the endangered category and a lot of the factors threatening their existence are man-made. Pollutants, plastics and microplastics, oils, toxins released by industrial wastes are one of the biggest life hazards for blue whales. Also, blue whale population is seen to be declining because of the climate change threats, ship collisions and entanglement in fishing gears. I hope we learn to respect the habitat of other organisms and not disturb the balance that nature has so graciously provides. Also, I hope strict conservation laws be made for their protection so they don't go extinct and we don't have to suffer the loss another beautiful creature.
