Choose another artwork from the Heilbrunn Timeline of Art History (Links to an external site.). Start with 'Chronologies' and explore an era and culture | civilization you are interested in. --For example if you are interested in a particular geographic location (Europe, South America, India) you can click on the map above and then select an era below. --OR choose an era from the timeline that scrolls across and below will show you a variety of cultures | civilizations during that era.

Part 1 (50 points)

From here, choose a piece of art to share with us. Include basic information:

5 points -Image of the work -EMBEDDED in the post -Culture | Civilization and Artist, if known -Title of piece and date -Medium

5 points -Describe the "style" the artists uses to create the work. What leads you to this choice?

20 points -Discuss the content of the piece (text reference: 88 - 90). What is the subject? What are the subtexts or metaphors? Is there specific iconography being used? Perhaps it is/was functional. What was it used for?

20 points -Discuss the context of the piece (text reference: 92 - 95). In most cases, you will need to do additional internet research to answer these questions - Analyze the significance of the artwork to the culture  -----Does it relate to any dominant styles or art movements from the era? -----Do historic, religious, or socio-economic factors influence the work? -----What might have been the original method of encounter for the work?
