I am preparing for an advanced level biology exam in university and need detailed information about cellular respiration. The complete process of cellular respiration should be described as well as how the energy from glucose is used to generate ATP. First, start from giving the general idea of the purpose of cellular respiration and explaining why ATP is considered to be the energy currency in the cell. Describe each stage of cellular respiration including glycolysis, pyruvate oxidation (the link reaction), the Krebs (citric acid) cycle and the electron transport chain with oxidative phosphorylation in details. When you describe each stage please explain where it takes place, the main components (inputs and outputs), which enzymes or molecules participate in each stage, how the ATP, NADH and FADH2 are involved, and how much energy is generated through each step. Explain the importance of oxygen as a final acceptor of electrons and describe what will happen without it. Compare aerobic and anaerobic respiration regarding ATP generation, efficiency, end products, the type of organisms and tissues using one or another form. Moreover, explain the connection of cellular respiration with photosynthesis and their participation in the carbon cycle. Also, please explain the importance of cellular respiration for life. If possible provide a step-by-step description, compare aerobic and anaerobic respiration in a table, and make a simple scheme of cellular respiration.
