This trend is the result of a multitude of things that influence minority communities. The first being stereotyping of ethnic groups leading to prejudices against them by society. This is something that has taken place for years and has led to many different movements seeking justice for those who have lost their lives or have been wrongly arrested due to said prejudices. Another influence is the lower quality of education in areas that have larger minority populations (Harlow, 2003). These areas tend to receive less government funding despite having a high population; therefore the standards are lower for students and less attention is given to those who need it. Without a proper education and guidance through teen years, many will seek guidance and help elsewhere which can lead to the joining of gangs and participation in crimes. 
Although this is something that has gone on for years, there is a solution. Recently, many reach out programs have moved to these areas in attempt to prevent youths from going down the wrong path. Clubs and after school organizations can give students a sense of belonging and and a place where they can avoid troubles and focus on bettering themselves in order to stay on the right path (OMH’s Justice and Health Initiatives, 2018). Government funding is a necessity in areas with high minority populations because of their susceptibility to poverty and prejudice; without funding, communities will have no way to rebuild from past troubles or care for the youth that are present today. Setting up rehabilitation centers is another major helper in communities like this (Benham, 2016). Many people are seeking for a way out of their troubled lifestyles, but help can be expensive and in areas where poverty is so high, help is often not an option. By giving people the option to remove themselves from a bad situation, lives can be improved and families can be healed.
Our elected officials have to be concerned; these minorities are just as much a part of the community as anyone else and their struggles are the struggles of the community. In order to have a safe and stable community, all areas that have flaws must be looked at and cared for. A society can not grow if there is a whole section in trouble that is being neglected. It is the duty of our officials to take the time to properly address the needs of minorities and to care for them as they would any other part of the community.
