Professional Growth Plan Project
NDavis0612
Through this project you will demonstrate your ability to create a teacher professional growth plan. After reading Chapter 6: Evaluating Teacher Growth in The Art of School Leadership, reflect on the following scenario and design a Professional Growth Plan for the teacher mentioned.
Scenario:
You have just finished an observation with a teacher who has been teaching for 8 years in a middle school math classroom. The lesson that you observed was not engaging and students seemed to be off task at various points during the lesson. At one point their were multiple students who were working on something completely different than what the teacher had asked them to work on. The teacher began the lesson with a bell ringer, however she never went over it with the students and moved quickly into her lesson. During his instruction she simply had students take notes on the mathematical concept he was presenting on. Students were not given time to practice on their own, however the teacher did assign an exit ticket where students had to show their work on one problem similar to the ones the teacher worked on the board. This teacher believes that they are an exceptional teacher and that his "Old fashion" way of teaching is beneficial for his students.
In a 2-4 pages APA style paper reflect on this scenario by answering the following questions:
- During your post-observation conversation how do you go about discussing the observation results with the teacher?
- What are some strategies that you would use to help motivate the teacher to improve his instructional practices?
- What would you do, and how would you respond IF the teacher did not agree with your observations and became confrontational?
- Outline a professional growth plan that the mentioned teacher could follow to improve his instructional practices?
Be creative with this assignment, this is a real world situation that you might find yourself in one day. When outlining the professional growth plan in your paper feel free to use outline format, narrative writing, or graphics.
