CASE STUDY WEEK 3
ROBBERY CASE STUDY 2
Facts: On October 4, 2005, deputies were dispatched to a residence on the report of a 17-year old female who advised there was an unknown male in her home and he was in control of her sister-in-law. Officers responded to the scene and identified a black male who tried to escape through a window of the residence when they arrived. This individual was placed into custody. Officers then surrounded the residence as it became apparent that there were still other perpetrators in the residence. The sister-in-law managed to convince the other two suspects that they could escape through a secret door in the basement. When the two went into the basement she promptly locked the door behind them and escaped the residence with her children including the 17 year old caller who was ordered to stay upstairs in the residence. Officers then advised the two suspects in the basement to surrender or SWAT would enter the residence. The two eventually surrendered and were arrested and officers recovered various firearms that were loaded and had been removed from the gun safe in the residence. The victim was also found to have been pistol-whipped across the face and nose and was forced to open the gun safe during the siege.
