Probation and parole play a significant role in the treatment of offenders and allowing violators to stay engaged in the community while still strictly monitoring their activities. Probation and parole officers face many ethical and social issues as they decide on how best to treat individuals who are being monitored. Violations can result in placing individuals back into prison and have significant issues with the family and others. According to our textbook, more than 3.9 million individuals are on probation and approximately 900,000 are on parole. Issues that can arise with potentiation and parole include intensive supervision, electronic monitoring, and house arrest. The mission of probation and parole must be studied to understand the ethical issues impacting these roles in the criminal justice system.
