An example of a technology that has global implications is Internet of Things(IoT). Mainly focused on commonly used things that most; if not all of use today. Common examples of this technology are Amazon Alexa, smart thermostats, or even smart security systems.

Long term issues and challenges with this technology is its pervasive nature. In the lecture, a Gartner report from 2015 stated “there were 6.4 billion IoT devices worldwide in 2016, up 30 percent from 2015, with the total reaching 20.8 billion by 2020”. This growth demonstrates what would have required more than 4 million new devices be connected to the Internet each day. This technology and how much it’s utilized is mind blowing. What’s even more interesting is that these numbers are expected to grow which will open safety and security risks.

The short-term issues and challenges include the safety and security of IOT users. Some factors that make IOT a safety and security concern is many of them are autonomous. As stated in the lecture many of these devices can also share information, which make them a threat for extraction of information. The expanded use of this technology will could make users more vulnerable in multiple

Some examples of a technology that has global implications one that social media and mobile devices may phylogical and physical issues such as eyestrain and difficulty focusing on important tasks. They may also contribute to more serious health conditions such as depression. The overuse of technology may have a more significant impact on developing children and teenagers. This is a few examples when it comes to the medical side of implications.  As suggested by Medical News Today. www.medicalnewstoday.com . Now when it comes to the technology and globalization impact. Technology advancements reduce cost of transportation and communication across nations in thereby  facilitate global sourcing of raw materials and other inputs. Patented technology encourages globalization as the firm owning the patent can exploit foreign markets without much competition. As suggested by www.vskills.in . They also talked about how earlier high-technology production was limited to rich countries with high wages. Now technology is easily transferable to developing countries where Hi-Tech production can be combined with low wages. It also reads that a large number of firms and advanced countries are now Outsourcing labour's intensive services from developing countries like India. Some short-term issues and challenges with this technology is in my opinion I feel they are kind of one in the same and what brings me to that opinion is the willingness of a company or person willingness to change.  How ever I did read a few examples of short and long-term implications of technology.  Some long term potential harmful effects of extensive screen time and technology use includes heightened attention deficit symptoms, impaired emotional and social intelligence, technology addition, social isolation, impaired brain development, and disrupted sleep. Also fatigue irritation and blurred vision from too much I strain. Some short-term effects include behavioral problems, less time for play and loss of social skills, obesity, sleep problems, violence. I found that there were more long-term impacts than short-term which was very concerning to me. I really hope I understood the assignment.  And didn't totally miss the mark.
