Question

Albert Ellis believed firmly that our thoughts are what make us behave as we do.  In other words, behavior results from our thoughts/beliefs; therefore, our cognitions must be changed. Scripture also alludes to this in Romans 12:2:
Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed BY THE RENEWING OF YOUR MIND.  Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – his good, pleasing and perfect will.
What, then, results from the renewing of one’s mind?  Paul again provides the answer:
Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – THINK ABOUT SUCH THINGS.  Philippians 4:8
As you prepare to engage with your peers for this devotional, reflect upon the influence that secular music, movies, television, etc. has on how we think.  What kinds of messages do we get from these, which may then affect our behavior?
