DISCUSSION 1

The Department of Health and Human Services championed the Communicable Disease Centre (CDC) foundation on July 1, 1946. Today CDC is one among many divisions of the Department of Health and Services that care for American health (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2019). The Centres for Diseases Control and Prevention holds its capital in Atlanta, Georgia, in the United States. CDC was initially founded to prevent the rampant spread of malaria across the country (Hall et al., 2021). The headquarters was situated on a single floor of a small building.

The division at its creation had minimal funds and a lack of enough employees to carry out duties efficiently. Communicable Disease Centre had a budget of 10 million dollars and not more than 400 employees (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2019). Dr. Joseph Mountin, the founder of CDC, promoted CDC in the South of the US, which was hard hit with malaria (Hall et al., 2021). He was an intuitive leader who preached public health service awareness. In 1947, CDC purchased 15 acres of land worth 10 dollars to Emory University. Its land occupation in Atlanta made CDC develop its headquarters and later included all infectious diseases.

The CDC's mission is to be prepared to protect the health of Americans and prevent loss of lives from health hazard incidents (Hall et al., 2021). It works in identifying both foreign and local threats. It studies diseases that pose a danger to human lives, whether within or outside the country. This awareness helps them prepare for worst-case scenarios if diseases spread across the country and how American lives can be saved. In 2019, the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (Covid-19) was first reported in Wuhan, China (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2019). Covid-19 had no known cure, and therefore the CDC began its research on how to prevent it if it

reaches America. The CDC's research on Covid-19 helped save millions of American lives by giving them health protocols and guidelines and help in finding Covid-19 vaccines.

In conclusion, the CDC is one of the essential divisions in the Department of Health and Human Services. CDC works with local health organizations to distribute covid-19 vaccines that help prevent the spread of covid (Hall et al., 2021). CDC is beneficial because the world has become a global village, and diseases can quickly spread across the globe. Therefore, it is the job of the CDC to assess threats that are yet to occur in the future. This helps prevent pandemics from occurring or reduce the number of fatalities in case one transpires.

 DISUCSSION 2

In 1946, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) was created in a national effort to reduce the spread of Malaria and control the rate in one building floor in Atlanta (CDC, 2022). Over the years, the agency has shifted its purpose to handling almost all the health concerns affecting the population. CDC is among the significant agencies serving under the Department of Health and Human Services, with the organization's mission targeting to protect all Americans from health concerns and safety threats (Niles, 2021). The agency was formulated to meet all the alarming health concerns, whether from abroad or within the American boundaries, chronic or acute, due to human error or a deliberate attack on the human population (CDC, 2022).

According to Niles (2021, p.66),  the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention  has created four health goals: Ensuring healthy people in healthy places, preparing people for emergency health threats, providing positive international health, and maintaining care and education for healthy people at all stages of their life.” The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention helps the population fight the diseases and provides health support for communities and the same population. The agency increases the population's safety through improved health security by saving lives and protecting the population from critical health threats through science and medicine (CDC, 2022). In accomplishing the assigned mission, CDC experts conduct the critical science and give out health information for the nation's protection from these health concerns.

CDC health agency is responsible for controlling and preventing introduced infectious diseases, providing the general population with health consultation services, improving the national efforts to prevent and control diseases, the health of the environment, and promoting health-related activities (Barile et al., 2013). Concerning global health, CDC is responsible for improving population safety and security by reducing morbidity and mortality rates. The responsibility by CDC in this manner is achieved through investment in technical skills, scientific knowledge and research, and global partnership with involved agencies (Barile et al., 2013).

In collaboration with other key players in the sector such as UNICEF, FAO, and WHO, CDC has improved the population's lives by unleashing the potential for collaboration between philanthropies and organization corporations. The primary source for the funds that help CDC run all the mentioned operations is the budgetary authorities from the U.S. Congress, which determines the annual appropriations. However, CDC is welcome to receive donations from other key stakeholders and private entities who share the same mission in the population's health.

In the wake of the COVID -19 pandemic, CDC is working with local health organizations such as the Children Health of Atlanta CHOA to provide health assistance in information and resources to help reduce the impacts of the global pandemic (Zambrano et al., 2022). CHOA can get updated information on COVID-19 vaccines, additional doses for the children, and other related health assistance through the information recommendation. The healthcare professionals working at CHOA depend on this information to get the additional dose needed to have immunocompromised children between 5 and 11 years vaccinated and those of 12 years and older receive their booster shots (Zambrano et al., 2022). In this manner, CDC is working towards its initial mission to provide health support for the population fighting infectious diseases and prevent deaths associated with the spread of COVID-19, especially for the children in Atlanta. I once had the opportunity to interact with a CDC official who informed me that it is part of their mission to reduce the spread of COVID-19 among children not just in the city but in all states with other states key stakeholders such as WHO and UNICEF. In other states, the local health organizations receive information recommendations and financial support from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Interestingly, the CDC has become an essential part of our lives after the pandemic. We are now more in tune with the agency, following its recommendations and guidelines to get back to normal.
