Objective 4: Describe the importance of integrating a Biblically-based and Christ-centered approach to professional advocacy. In Chapter 2, the readings emphasize that judicial decisions can inform policy development, administration, and reform. There are topics in the Human Services arena that clash with Christian values, occurring at the level of the worker in the field through the level of the judge making decisions regarding laws.

•  Write a one-page, double-spaced essay response which answers the following prompts:
  • Identify a judicial decision that has informed policy that may not necessarily align with your personal Christian viewpoints. Some topics that you may wish to explore are those that are considered the most controversial because of religious belief systems like abortion, birth control being covered by government funded healthcare programs, Gay Marriage, Prayer in Schools, etc.
  • Discuss the basic tenants of the policy and how it may conflict or align with your religious belief system.
  • Explore how approaching these social issues from a religious perspective may be helpful in creating policies that are not only just, but also effective in terms of the moral development of society.
