Question

“If anyone causes one of these little ones—those who believe in me—to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea. Woe to the world because of the things that cause people to stumble! Such things must come, but woe to the person through whom they come!  Matthew 18: 5-7

Jesus is speaking here, and He is clearly showing how important children are to God and the judgment that will fall on those who harm them. One way that children learn is by watching those around them, especially their parents or other primary caregivers.

Jesus lived His life that everyone would have an example to follow. With the popularity of Charles Sheldon’s book In His Steps, his question, “What Would Jesus Do” became a catchphrase that demonstrates the importance of having an example to follow.

  • Identify an adult you respected and admired when you were growing up - someone you wanted to be like someday.
  • What was it about their personality traits that drew you towards them?
  • Reflect on who might be thinking the same thing about you right now.
  • Do you need to change your behavior or attitudes to become a better role model?
  • How does this devotion challenge you to reflect the light of Christ in all you do and say?
