1. The theory of ethnic studies focuses on the non-white experiences, or what the text shows about non-white people's experience What does the poem or story show about the Black experience 

 2. Postcolonialism looks at the effects of settlers who took control of countries (that did not belong to them) and exploited the land AND people for economic gains. So, for example, I might look at a text and write about how it shows the effects of slavery.
