JC week 2 paper

Question

One of the biggest challenges to being an effective leader is avoiding the pride and idolatry that can come with having power (otherwise known as “going on a power trip”), especially since most people are not even comfortable admitting that maybe they succumb to this temptation. This assignment will require you to focus on this challenge on a personal level.

  • Read Chapter 8 of the textbook by Yukl.
  • Write a 3 page paper addressing following points.
    • Part 1: Using Mott’s Insecurity Model from the Workshop Two Power Point presentation, as well as scripture references, explain how a personal quest for power can be tainted by sin and insecurity in your personal life.  Be specific and provide examples from your own life.
    • Part 2: from the Yukl text, discuss the various types of authority and how they can be undermined if one is “insecure.”
    • Part 3: Using that same model, explain how sin and insecurity can impact organizational behavior.  Use specific examples from the business/ministry articles to illuminate your point.
    • Part 4: Explain how a biblical approach to power would help alleviate these problems, and discuss specific techniques from Yukl that could be used to influence others in a respectful and healthy manner.
    • Part 5: Based upon what you’ve discussed above, what changes do you need to make in your personal behavior, especially your leadership and management behaviors, to truly serve and care for others rather than being motivated by insecurity?
  • Ensure that you have at least two scholarly resources to support your writing.

Ensure that you use the Paper Writing rubric to guide your efforts and support your work with scholarly academic resources using APA format.
