The murder of Yardley Love was caused by the dynamics of intimate partner which was as a result of psychological disorder associated with drunkenness and mala-behavior.  The interaction between man and woman was destined by nature and the sociological importance of that interactions cannot be quantified in monetary terms. In other words, the intimate relationships that exists between male and female gender is a mystery that is devoid of human comprehension. Social exchange theory postulates that social behavior is the result of an exchange process which encapsulates affection, sharing of gifts, having fun and so on. The purpose of this exchange of affections and the like are mostly to maximize benefits to the barest minimum. So, the Social Exchange theory as regards Love and Hughely relationship was a manifestation of true romance between two genders which was necessitated by give and take benefits. Unfortunately, the negative behavioral attitude of Hughely caused by alcohol the mutually beneficial romance. The aggressive behavior of Hughely was as a result of temporary mental disorder caused by alcohol. The constant intake of liquor caused their relationship to go on and off which exposed Yardley Love to other relationship advances by other men. The inability of Hughely to apply the theory of Social Exchange in relationship caused the gruesome murder of Yardley Love. Love was always ready to do her own bit in the relationship but the drunkenness nature of Hughely affected his psychological threshold which inadvertently affected his behavior.
