Objective 4: Explain how a servant leader can infuse an entire organization or endeavor with positive energy.

The goal of this activity is to realize that a servant leader must “zoom out” to see patterns and structures in a systems context. Its one thing to devote time and energy to personal development, but it takes a different set of skills to permeate an entire organizational culture with values that project a “people first” mindset.

  • Read Chapter 6 in the Seven Pillars textbook.
  • Download and review the Week Four Pillars Presentation
  • Write a one-page journal entry responding to one or more of the following questions. The readings from TSPSL text chapter six will provide additional information.
    • What does it mean to be comfortable with ambiguity?
    • How is it an advantage to a human service worker to grow in this area?
    • What do you need to do to improve in this area?
    • What are some key skills that a servant leader must develop when he/she is promoted to a management or supervisory position?
    • Do you possess some of these skills? Which ones? How will your Christian faith impact your decision making as a servant leader?
    • Which of the “Ways to Recognize a Systems-Thinking Servant-Leader” (pp. 154-55) resonate with you? Do you already possess these traits? How do you exhibit them?
