SIX: APA Assignment

For your academic assignments and papers, you will need to know how to use APA formatting. This includes the formatting, in-text citation, and reference page.  Using correct formatting is an essential aspect of college writing. While the same formatting may not be used in your work and ministry areas, understand the importance of using the correct formatting for the situation is key. Academic papers require the use of consistent formatting.

• Watch “The Basics of APA Style” at The Basics of APA Style

• Read chapter 17 “Citing Sources” and chapter 20 “APA Style” in Student’s Guide to Writing College Papers.

• Follow these guidelines to complete this assignment:
  • Do these two online activities to practice what you’ve learned.
    • Fill in the Blank (in-text citation practice)
    • Reference Page Practice  (reference page entry practice)
  • Watch this video to prepare to use Knightcite.com.  After you have completed the PowerPoint, go to Knightcite.com and create an account.
    • Powerpoint Step by Step
  • Create a document that includes a Title page, a body page and the References page using the APA Template in the course resources. The body page only needs to include one paragraph about why APA formatting is necessary for academic writing. This content is not as important for this assignment. This assignment is intended to make sure you have the mastery of formatting a paper in APA.
  • NOTE:  In APA formatting, the purpose of an abstract is to provide a reader with a short summary (150 - 250 words) of your written work or research paper. Generally speaking, abstracts are reserved for published works or longer academic papers. For Grace Christian University, you will not be required to use abstracts with your papers, which is why they are not included in the APA template we use. 
  • The reference page should be based on the three sources below. Since you will be creating the reference page in Knightcite, download the Word document from Knightcite and post it at the end of your paper.

    • (journal) “Technology, Learning, and Individual Differences” by Anne A. Bear from Journal of Adult Education in Bringham City in 2012 Volume 41 Issue 2  pages 27-42

• Submit the APA document with Title page, body paragraph, and References page.
