Week 5: Video Case Study

Question

Watch the video case study located at the bottom of the Modules tab, titled, “Employment, Worker Protection, and Immigration Law”.  Then write your answers to the questions at the end of the video, and my questions below using law from our books. I want you to discuss what legal concepts apply to this situation. Define the concepts and then use the facts and the law together to come to conclusions.

THEN….do the following:

The State of California came up with a checklist for fathers to take time off to be with their children. Take a look at this: http:/ /www.edd.ca.gov/Disability/PFL_Fathers.htmLinks to an external site. (Links to an external site.)  Does your State have a policy like this one?  Understand your State may not have one.  Just do a quick search.

Switching gears, you have the right to post what you want on your Facebook page right?  So, you can post anything you want about your job online in your Facebook page too, right? Can you write anything you like about your co-workers on your social media pages?  Can you be fired? Disciplined?  Analyze this from the perspective of the employer please!

Doesn’t the First Amendment protect your right to tell others about your job and why you are so upset about something that happened there?

Take a look at this after you have researched this in our book!

Remember:  Use your own words to show how you are learning something about the material.   You are business students, I don't expect you to be law students.  There is no right or wrong analysis.  Just do your best!
